This time of year, there are all kinds of economic and stock market predictions by major institutions, financial experts, TV commentators and the like. They are usually incorrect. For example, in December 2021 Deutsche Bank predicted that 2022 would be a great year: the S&P would hit 5250 and earnings would be strong. What really happened? We had the worst year in markets since 2008. In December 2022, they predicted that the S&P would fall 25% in 2023 and that company earnings would plunge. That was definitely not the case. Deutsche is a major institution and even they can get predictions wrong. Wildly wrong. Therefore, it’s important not to give credence to these kinds of prognostications and rather stay focused on a long term financial plan. All of which brings us to our foolproof market prediction for 2024: you can’t predict the market.
