The Little Investment Firm that Could

Mike L. Hines, CFP®, President and Founder

Having just celebrated the 4th of July, a time where people reflect on our country’s beginnings, it made me pause and think about CPC’s journey and how far we’ve come since our foundation nearly 50 years ago.

When the  firm was started, I quickly realized that I could not manage it all alone. So, early on, Blake   Flood came on board to help manage the investment side of the business and my daughter-in-law, Sheila Hines, joined to lead the client services arm of the firm. It was probably one of the best decisions I’ve ever made. This year, Blake will celebrate his 25th CPC anniversary and Sheila will celebrate her 24th!

Since then, we’ve continuously attracted and retained remarkable talent. We have a brilliant team of decorated financial advisors and an investment committee with the highest designations in the industry, such as CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™, Chartered Financial Analyst, Certified Public Accountant, Certified Exit Planning Advisor, Chartered Alternative Investment Analyst, Certified Investment Management Analyst, and Chartered SRI Counselor. Our client service team has over 42 years of combined experience supporting the unique needs of our financial advisors and clients. We also have a financial planning committee and several other committees that all serve to enhance the client experience.

In addition, we’ve been very fortunate to find and retain extremely smart and talented young individuals. Our young talent has helped us stay informed on emerging technology and ways we can become more efficient by utilizing artificial intelligence.

Looking from where we started to where we are today, I’m amazed at the number of accolades that CPC and our team members have collectively received since the founding of the firm in 1975. Several of our firm members have been recognized for their excellence by notable financial publications like Forbes, Barron’s, and most recently InvestmentNews. In 2022, CPC as an organization, was listed by the Atlanta Business Chronicle as one of the best places to work in Atlanta. This year, USA Today listed CPC as one of the Best Financial Advisory Firms in the nation. I feel very honored to be able to work side-by-side with such an amazing team.

Our success is due to the hard work and dedication of every member of our firm, both past and present. Much like our diverse country, the expertise and unique talents of each individual have helped shape CPC into what it is today.

USA TODAY 2023 Best Financial Advisory Firms. The selection of the firms and the definition of the evaluation criteria were based on independent journalistic criteria of USA TODAY and Statista. The ranking of the best-registered investment advisory firms is based on two dimensions: recommendations by clients and peers and a firm’s growth of Assets under Management. Recommendations were collected via an independent survey sent to over 20,000 individuals. The development of AUM was analyzed both, short and long-term based on publicly available data. For the short-term view, the growth of AUM over a twelve-month period was calculated, from January 2022 to January 2023. For the long-term view, the growth of AUM over a five-year period was calculated, from 2018-2023. Recommendations had a weight of 20% while development of AUM had a weight of 80% (short-term and long-term growth were equally weighted) to derive the final score.
